Darwin Holiday Park first to be fitted with MID approved eco-friendly Smart Meter technology
A holiday park in North Wales has become the first in the UK to install MID approved Smart ‘ecoMeter’ energy monitors. Seaview Holiday Park in Flintshire, one of 15 parks owned and operated by the Darwin Leisure Property Fund, houses 110 owner-occupied static caravans and all have been fitted with the technology, which provides owners with real time information on their energy consumption.
The meters, which have been supplied by Energy Controls Group and are approved by the major energy supply companies, empower consumers to understand and take control of their energy usage. Current and historical energy consumption details are displayed on the devices, including information such as cost per hour at the current consumption rate, current electricity usage and the last hour’s usage. SMS messaging functionality allows alerts and tips such as energy saving information to be sent to the consumer, or even general park information, whilst demand threshold indicators use simple red, amber or green lights to represent whether their energy consumption is high or low.
Lindsey Bamford, Managing Director, Darwin Holiday Parks said of the meters “We have installed the ‘ecoMeters’ in order to help our owners understand how they are using their electricity and to see where they can reduce consumption, in order to reduce both their bills and their carbon footprint. The meters have received a positive reaction from our owners and plans are in place to install the technology at other parks within the Darwin portfolio”.
Chris Smith of Energy Controls Group commented “We are delighted that Darwin have chosen the MID approved ‘ecoMeter’ Smart meters which we supply, and we are confident that the owners of caravans on the Seaview site will find them beneficial in helping to reduce their energy consumption. These are the same meters which are being fitted into tens of millions of homes in the UK, and will provide the users with a transparency in their electricity charging”.
