LIW Show NEC 18-20 September 2012

Bringing together over 9,000 senior buyers and decision-makers from the UK visitor attractions industry each year, Leisure Industry Week (LIW) is the UK show for all stakeholders in the Play & Attractions and Leisure Facilities sectors. Organised by UBM Live, the leading international exhibitions and events organisation, LIW (18-20th September 2012) is the largest leisure event in the UK, attracting over 300 exhibitors from around the globe.

Representing a diverse portfolio of innovative services and solutions to the leisure industry, exhibitors range from suppliers of rides, convenience food, theming and special effects, to those offering attractions and facilities services. Now in its 22nd year, the theme of LIW 2011 is ‘where innovation meets inspiration’ and this sentiment is echoed throughout all of the features and educational content taking place at the show. With over 10 brand new features across its sectors, LIW 2012 is growing in both size and variety of content.

The Play Innovation Zone, which was launched last year with great success, is back to showcase suppliers of varying sizes who will show off their new products and latest innovations to visitors. The Theme Factory and Magical Fairy Land are also poised to provide plenty of inspirational content. The Magical Fairy Land is a purpose-built fantastical live play feature that can be tailor made to suit a variety of attraction venues. It will also offer the opportunity to take advantage of marketer Russell Play’s wealth of industry knowledge in terms of creativity and design within a live play environment. The brand new Theme Factory will help attractions build upon their current offer through the development of compelling and exciting new experiences. Creatively reinventing existing attractions space to drive increased revenue spend is imperative in the current economic climate and will be a key focus at LIW 2011. Experts from across the sector will be on hand to provide practical guidance and advice to organisations which are working hard to create original attractions destinations despite the recent dip in the economy. The Leisure Facilities sector will also be catered for with brand new energy saving presentations and exhibitors contributing to the show this year to include BRE and powerPerfector. In addition to these features, the Outdoor Demo Area and Attractions Industry Party are both back by popular demand.

An exciting development for LIW 2011 is he introduction of BRE, INFO, who are exhibiting for the first time. In ‘Energy management – producing an efficient culture’, Dr Andy Lewry will present a step by step approach to energy management. He will cover how sources of data such as energy audits, EPSd/DECs and M&T can underpin energy management and the difference between asset and operational performance. During this talk, Andy will also introduce the new energy management standard IOS 50001, explaining how this can contribute to an auditable approach to the implementation of an energy management programme.

LIW will have more than 150 hours of valuable seminar content in the new Education Village, combining the latest in innovation and expert opinion from Cartoon Network, Vision XS and DP Associates. Turner Media Innovations and Cartoon Network will feature here with two seminars focusing on the influence children have on the activities and attractions families choose, and a discussion on the growing success and popularity of licensed attractions, drawing on their experience from the Ben 10 Rollercoaster and Cartoon Network street at Drayton Manor. DP Associates will present a session evaluating the option of adding a secondary indoor element to seasonal outdoor attractions venues to enable them to operate all year round. The National Farm Attractions Network (NFAN) is also set to present a rural and countryside attractions seminar programme. The speakers and topics for this will be announced very soon.

Play & Attractions and Leisure Facilities are just two of the seven sectors within LIW, a visitor badge provides access to a whole range of complimentary products and services to help improve attractions facilities and drive secondary spend. It is recommended that visitors take some time to explore the entire show in order to discover the varied crossover opportunities which exist between the sectors. Registration is open at
